διάψαλμα - Selah

Etymology

:: Selah :: - Its etymology and precise meaning is unknown. This word occurs seventy-one times in thirty-nine of the Psalms, and three times in Habakkuk 3. It is found at the end of Psalms 3, 4, 24, 46. Well, it is generally held that "Selah" (Hebrew: סלה) has a close meaning to "pause, reflection" within the context of a prayer or psalms. It is similar in purpose to Amen in that it stresses the importance of the preceding passage. In this way, Selah is thought to imply that one should pause and reflect on what has been said.

Of course an indepth research would reveal many interpretations of "Selah". For example, "Selah", [transliterated celah], is derived from the primitive Hebrew root word [calah] meaning "to hang" in the aspect of weighing or measuring something. Mordern ideas have introduced "Selah" as having no grammatical connection, it may be either a liturgico-musical mark, or an instruction on the reading of the text. In our local context, "Selah" may even be mispronounced as "Si-Lah" (a Hokkien dialect for DIE - "Si lah! Neber put paking coupon just now!"), "See-Lah" (a local slang, expressing a HOPELESS situation - "See lah! Now you kena fine, orh-bi-good!"), or even "Sa-Lah" (a Malay word for "WRONG" - "Wah heng ah, sa lah car, my car pak le other side leh, no fine!").

I like to create this blog into a collection of my musings; events, situations, emotions, thoughts, ideas, stuff that I've dreamed, imagined, lived out, witnessed, and experienced. And when it all gets munched, gobbled down and moves through the cognitive digestive system, it'll produce a kind of "Selah" - a blog that is largely reflective in nature, desiring to challenge and inspire the heart and mind, soul and spirit.

So read on, I hope you'll share with me in my little adventures and journeys, enjoying the fullness of LIFE that we're all blessed with. Live your life intentionally.

Alright, so much for a nice blog intro (heh heh, every blog has to have one, eh?).

I'm gonna rush off now for my rehearsal for the opening of One Degree Asia! Producing this is tough work but great fun! Find out more - www.onedegreeasia.org

Beginnings...

They say it's never too late to join the bandwagon.

So I've finally arrived. It took just a little longer than usual, a trip to Sydney and a tad bit of curiousity, and endless deliberation, and a little more deliberation, and just one teeny weeny bit more deliberation and a final moment of conviction...

LADIES & GENTLEMAN, I'm officially part of the blogging community.

Remember to drop a line to say "Hi" on my soon-to-be-setup message board (that box thingy... you know... whatever you call it..).

Dunch like that lah, support support a bit mah...
